The collection is prepared for the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Khatyn State Memorial Complex and tells about the award to its authors Yu.M. Gradov, V.P. Zankovich, L.M. Levin and S. I. Selikhanov of the Lenin Prize of the USSR. The publication includes documents from the archives of Belarus and Russia. The grand opening of the Khatyn memorial complex took place on July 5, 1969. It was erected on the site of a village that was destroyed on March 22, 1943 by a punitive detachment as revenge for the murder of several German soldiers. 149 residents of Khatyn were burned alive or shot for possible assistance to the partisans. Khatyn has become a symbol of the mass destruction of the civilian population by the Nazis in the occupied territory of the USSR.
