First published in 2019. The work is devoted to the history of the incorporation of Kazakh lands into the Russian Empire in the 18th–19th centuries. All stages of this process are revealed: from the establishment of a protectorate over the Kazakh zhuzes to the liquidation of the remnants of autonomous governance. Particular attention is paid to the contribution of outstanding personalities to the development of Kazakh-Russian relations, and to the elucidation of little-known pages of the past.
