The book is devoted to the problem of preserving the historical and architectural appearance of the ancient Russian city of Kargopol. The author focuses on the threat of loss of outstanding cultural heritage monuments of the Resurrection Church of the 17th century and the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit of the 18th century, the fate of the first Chief Ruler of the Russian-American Company A.A. Baranov, holy martyr Benjamin and other famous residents of Kargopol. The author revealed the colorful images of the fathers of the pre-revolutionary city of Kargopol: merchants and entrepreneurs who left behind magnificent monuments of church and civil architecture. The text of the book is illustrated with numerous photographs and drawings. Many of them are published for the first time.
