The fifth, expanded edition of Jaroslav Franek's Judaism introduces the reader to a wide range of issues related to the Jewish spiritual world, clarifies basic Jewish religious ideas and concepts, describes the various religious currents that have emerged over the course of history, and explains the historical background of their development. It assumes no special knowledge on the part of the reader and provides answers to many questions. It lists all the festivals of the Jewish liturgical year, describing the rich history of the Jewish people from biblical times to the present day. Separate chapters are devoted to the history of Slovak Jewry, the Zionist movement, and the history of the State of Israel, including the Israeli-Arab war conflicts. The book is supplemented by selected Talmudic texts and short excerpts from the works of Jewish authors, as well as a glossary of frequently used terms and names encountered when reading Judaica. Despite being nonfiction, it is reader-appealing, reviewed and appreciated by reviewers and readers alike.
