The book presents contributions from the 41st year of the Pilsen interdisciplinary symposium, dedicated to the manifestations of individualism during the "long" 19th century. Questions related to self-reflection, self-presentation, and self-actualization resonated in different ways in the world of men and women from the ranks of the bourgeoisie, the working class, and the aristocracy. The authors of the studies pay attention to distinct personalities and the sometimes complex search for and definition of their position in society - in relation to ideological projects, artistic conventions, etc. The issue of individualism is viewed in the publication, which includes a pictorial appendix, from the perspective of history, philosophy, literary history, musicology, theater and art history .
