This book provides a detailed description of the tragic fate of Ivan VI Antonovich, Emperor of Russia (1740-1741). Thirteen months after the twelve-month heir was proclaimed Emperor, the Empress Elizabeth took the throne and Ivan and his family were imprisoned. The rest of his life (24 years) he was a recluse, spending his last eight years in the fortress of Shlisselburg. The book is written by a famous St. Petersburg historian, the author of numerous researches into the Russian history of the XVIIIth century Yevgeny Anisimov.
