The present edition about cruel, harsh and heroic realities of war is unique. Firstly, the author’s personal memoirs (he took part in most of the events described) are proved by original documents of the war time, many of which have never been published before, being kept safe in the veteran archives only. Secondly, the book tells about the true war life of such a peculiar military unit, as a tank corps was. The 1st tank corps was formed in spring 1942, when the war had already broken out. The corps took part in the intense summer defensive battles in Voronezh direction in 1942, in the historical counter – offensive by the Soviet army near Stalingrad in winter 1942/43, as well as in the Orlovskaya campaign within the famous Kursk battle in summer, 1943 and many others.
