The moderation of Islamic consciousness, outlined and recommended to Muslims in the Koran, remains a problematic issue in its practical implementation, as evidenced by the surge of Islamic radicalism in the world, including in Russia, at the end of the 20th - beginning of the 21st century. The study used the results of many years of sociological surveys conducted by the author in the Republic of Dagestan. Based on a comparative analysis of indicators of moderation in the normative and mass Islamic consciousness, the author comes to the conclusion that ordinary Muslims adapt to the phenomena of a globalizing world much better.
