In the monograph basic, in-depth consideration was given to the insufficiently-studied aspects of the creative work by the great Russian writer I.S.Turgenev. On the basis of the materials and publications from Russian and foreign archives which are for the first time disclosed to the world of science Turgenev's links with Russian emigration representatives (the families of the decembrists N.I.Turgenev, A.I.Gertsen, N.I.Sazonov) and a number of French writers (G.Sand, J.Renan), as well as Viardo family are examined. A number of sections are devoted to the analysis of philosophic aspects of the novel "Smoke", as well as the writer's "dialogue" with his contemporaries (L.Tolstoi, F.Dostoevsky, F.Tiutchev, A.Fett) on the vital issues of literature and social life.
