Indje voivoda, who became a symbol of the fearlessness of Hajdush, is one of the emblematic figures in the Bulgarian national liberation struggle. Numerous legends and exploits are associated with his name, which are reflected in folklore. The novel of the same name by Konstantin Petkanov is a historical account of the heroic and fighting spirit of the Bulgarian during the Kardzhalian period at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. With his gift as a fiction writer, the author skilfully paints the images of Bulgarian leaders such as Valko Bimbelov, Marincho Zgurev and grandfather Nikola Uzuna, who dream of a native land, free from tyrants and sultans, under the rule of their own "Bulgarian king".
