The narrative “In the trenches of Stalingrad” was the first trueful book about the Great Patriotic War: Nekrasov was the first who wrote so simply and so terribly about the war. There are no soldiers in a beautiful form, marching under the banners – just an honest picture of the battle and survival at the front. There are no portraits of the leader, generals and political workers, the main characters of the narrative are officers and soldiers. Immediately after the publication the book was criticized a lot, however it was awarded the Stalin Prize. And in 1956 there was an adaptation of the book– the film “Soldiers”.
