In the Polish People's Republic, everything had a political dimension - from red ties to Coca-Cola and ham. It is no wonder that the authorities of the People's Republic of Poland also decided to harness animals in their politics and propaganda. Colorado beetles, zubron and krill - seemingly everything separates them: size, lifestyle, origin, natural environment, and even the role they play in the economy and human imagination. However, the potato beetle, a cross between a cow and a bison, and a small Antarctic crayfish were cleverly used to build a mythical story of strength and prosperity - Colorado beetles were used to scare and mobilize society, zubroń and krill were supposed to be the hope for shelves full of cheap and healthy food. The peak of popularity of each fell on a different decade: Colorado beetles are associated with Stalinist film chronicles today, experiments on zubron were talked about enthusiastically already during the Gomulka era, krill is the beloved child of Gierek's propaganda of success. The eighties saw the gradual decline of illusions associated with socialist superfood. The Polish People's Republic increasingly became a space for new interpretations and cultural reckoning. Monika Milewska offers an innovative reading of the history of post-war Poland. It is also a story about an entire era - its absurdities, paradoxes and unfulfilled promises. It seems that we live in times when everything has a political dimension.
