Johanson's selection of essays, compiled by his son Paul Johansson, marks the author's 100th anniversary. Andrejs Johansons' interest in literature and culture appears early, at the age of 14 he is published in a school magazine, followed by writing poems, creating cultural-historical and folklore monographs throughout his life. Johansson focuses on the essay genre while living in exile (in 1945 Johansson emigrated to Sweden, where he lived until the end of his life).
