The book is composed of articles and recollections devoted to the period of occupation from 1941 to 1945 on the examples of Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian cities and regions. The articles describe the seamy side of guerilla groups formed to struggle with fascist aggressors. But these groups were also a burden and a curse for the population living on the occupied territories. Other materials refer to a comparative analysis of the official and true versions of occupation of the Russian town Livny, description of Lokotsk district self-government, recollections of a girl taken out from a burnt-down village, activities of Pskov Orthodox Church and Pskov Youth Union.
