The publication deals with the Muslim presence in the Czech Republic and neighbouring German-speaking countries in an accessible way that does not, however, renounce academic accuracy and data support. The individual chapters are based on many years of research by the authors. In one place, the reader will find the best of current research that focuses on both Muslims and their perception by the majority society in the Czech Republic. The overall picture speaks of seamless coexistence, adaptation of Islamic rituals and a trend towards integration of Muslims in our space. But the publication does not turn a blind eye to problematic phenomena either. It discusses, for example, Salafism among German youth and disputes over the construction of mosques. Similarly, it notes the extreme Islamophobia of anti-Muslim initiatives, whose intolerance of difference, way of interpreting Islam and worldview are surprisingly similar to those of Islamic fundamentalists. Islamophobic sentiments in the Czech Republic threaten to reverse the positive trends regarding the integration of Muslims into our society.
