A great deal of evidence has survived about the history of the Ikskile region, which is largely due to the city of Riga, which owned the Ikskile Manor for several centuries and which, being a citadel of merchants, wanted to register everything, check it out and from time to time also take care of the viability of its property. This book examines the history of the Ikskile Lutheran Parish from its truly indeterminate beginnings in the 16th century to the first decade of the 20th century - its inhabitants, church, pastors, rectory, schools. Unknown or little-known archival data is provided, repeating as much as possible what has already been described in various publications. Great attention is paid to small, perhaps even insignificant details, but they shaped everyday life, the environment and also prevent history from becoming too general and impersonal.
