Painter and graphic artist, Igor Vieru made an essential contribution to the evolution of fine arts in the area between the Prut and the Dniester in the immediate post-war period. His creation has its origins in the ancestral Romanian folk tradition and developed in close connection with the artistic demands of the modern era.
Igor Vieru is the man and artist who, in the second half of the 20th century, in the era of socialist realism of Soviet origin, initiated, supported and promoted the national trend in the fine arts in Moldova. A distinguished artist and man of culture, Igor Vieru was, at the same time, a skilled teacher - the Chisinau Art High School bears his name.
One hundred years after the artist's birth, I considered it appropriate to publish a book dedicated to him in the editorial series "Notable Personalities". Moreover, unfortunately, to this date, a large and well-documented monographic study on his life, activity and work has not yet been developed. The present volume will serve as a truthful source of information about Igor Vieru, but also as a living mirror of the way in which the man and artist was known, received and appreciated by his contemporaries.
The collection brings together a selection from the multitude of scientific, journalistic, critical-informative or commemorative-homage writings (articles, essays, studies, notes, comments, evocations, lyrical dedications, etc.), which have been dedicated to him over time in the periodical press and in special editions that targeted his activity, personality and work.
