The author develops one of the least studied problems of the Russian history - attempts of fascist Germany to establish a military cooperation with the Oriental peoples of the USSR during the Great Patriotic war. The study deals mainly with the formation of Eastern legions in the structure of Vermacht, as well as the history of the Volga-Tatar legion, named "Idel-Ural". The research rests upon comprehensive archival materials.
