The publication offers results of profound research, conducted on Lowland Lithuanian dialects. They were deprived of linguists' special attention, as the dialects are hardly ever used in written language in Lithuania Major from the inception of Lithuanian printed literature in the XVIth century. The author traces the formation of a Lowland standard starting from the late XVIIIth century emphasizing peculiarities of its standardization.
