The book is a collection of articles of Ukrainian and foreign researchers devoted to the well-known French military engineer and cartographer Baplane. The research is devoted to the creative work of the engineer and his contribution to study of Ukrainian history of the 17th century and the development of Ukrainian cartography. It is the first issue that contains the historical document telling about Baplanes's visit to Galicia (a region of Ukraine). It also contains his facsimile "The Principles of Military Geometry" with translation into Ukrainian.
