The history of the "scientific life" of the first doctor of economics, professor of the Irkutsk Financial and Economic Institute Vadim Nikolaevich Sherstoboev (1900-1963) is reconstructed. The focus of the essays, which were collected in the book, is his study of the history of the region's economy, the agricultural development of Cis-Baikal, the narrative of the processes of scientific creativity, research practices and their results. Particular attention is paid to his "combat for history" — the fight against the positivist model of historical research, historiography of "scissors and glue", which the scientist conducted, based or professional social and natural science knowledge as a return to the practice o! historiography of a scientific approach to the study of the subject.
