This is a new edition of Alexander Fol's study marking his 85th birth anniversary. Fol and his school created a new branch of science dealing with the history and culture of the ancient Thracians. In this book the Bulgarian historian provides a new perspective on the Orphic hymns by analyzing them from the point of view of a non-literary doctrinal tradition which he himself calls Thracian Orphism. Throughout his career, Fol maintained that the Thracians and their non-written culture were separate from the Greco-Roman world. This theory helped establish Thracian Studies as a branch of science.
