The book tells how, in the early 90s, a team of reformers saved Russia from the real threat of chaos and collapse, creating the foundations of a market economy in a historically short period of time. As an active participant in the events, the author dispels the myths about those times, called in recent years the “damned nineties.” He shows that many decisions were dictated by the very situation of the collapse of the economy at the end of the USSR and the collapse of the state machine. This is what predetermined the radical nature of the reforms. Andrei Nechaev writes openly about the mistakes and “shynesses” in politics in subsequent years, including the last decade, that led the country to its current state. The author frankly describes the discussions, doubts and searches of reformers, the characters, positions and human relationships of the participants in the events that left their mark on the policies being pursued. Nechaev Andrey Alekseevich is a Doctor of Economic Sciences, the first Minister of Economics in the history of new Russia (1992-1993), one of the key figures in the government of reformers of the early 90s.
