This is a unique study in the field of Ukrainian local history. The author reveals the real - still unknown pages of the Liberation Struggle of 1917–1920 in the vicinity of Kyiv.
To write the book, Andriy Kovalyov used unique recently declassified documents from many Ukrainian archives, including the archives of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.
The research focuses on the history of his native Kyiv region. Through the history of the region, the author tells about the fighting of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the Ukrainian Galician Army against the Russian occupiers. He also reveals the course of the Anti-Hetman uprising, the battlefield of which became the outskirts of Kiev. Andriy Kovalyov describes unique details of the heroic struggle of Ukrainian insurgents and underground fighters in the Kyiv region. Along with this, he reveals the phenomenon of the Ukrainian church liberation movement. From the pages of this book the reader will discover a little-known story about the founding of the Lesya Kurbas Theater, the secret of the family history of the UPR Army Captain Ivan Andrukh and still unknown details of the last days of the famous Ukrainian poet and public figure Volodymyr Samylenko.
This book is the result of many years of archival and field research. These are almost 600 pages of shocking details from little-known pages of local history of Ukraine and about 1000 unique illustrations.
