A hospital in the Winter Palace (1915-1917) is a little-known and almost forgotten episode in Russian history of World War I period. Based on original materials the edition reconstructs its creation. That hospital organized upon Nikolas’s II decision was located in the main Emperor’s residence and housed about 1000 officers of low ranks. Unlike other military hospitals of that time, the hospital of the Winter Palace was equipped with the latest medical facilities and the most progressive methods of treatment were used there. The hospital was placed at the disposal of the Red Cross, which formed the personnel and solved all the questions of inner arrangement and regulations. The majority of documents and photographs are published for the first time.
