Nikolai Ustryalov was a Professor at the St. Petersburg University and an academician of the Imperial Academy of Sciences (1805-1870). 23 last years of his life he worked on History of the reign of Peter the Great. The work remained unfinished. Nevertheless this is the most comprehensive treatise on the history of Peter I.
