The history of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus is rich in heroic traditions, inextricably linked with the history of our state and its Armed Forces.
The soldiers and commanders of the internal troops covered themselves with unfading glory on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War. They honestly fulfilled their duty in times of peace, protecting the life and peace of the Soviet people. The first to bear the blow of the fascist troops were the border guards and units stationed near the border, including the heroic defenders of the Brest Fortress. The soldiers of the 132nd battalion of the NKVD, like all the defenders of the Brest Fortress, fought the enemy fiercely and stubbornly, until the last bullet - and died heroes. On January 13, 1960, the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs was abolished, and its functions were transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the union republics. The 22nd Department of Internal and Convoy Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the BSSR was created on the territory of Belarus. Officers awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union served in the internal troops stationed on Belarusian soil from 1936 to 1960. These are Lieutenant Generals Vasily Akimovich Gorishny and Vladimir Ivanovich Sentyurin, Colonel Ivan Ustinovich Kharchenko, Lieutenant Colonel Nikolai Vasilyevich Kologoida. Dry statistics show the scale of the tasks performed by the internal troops. In 2013 alone, more than 16,000 military personnel dressed up to assist territorial internal affairs bodies in protecting public order and ensuring public safety during special complex events, including outside points of permanent deployment.
