The book is devoted to the history of one Bulagat family of the Baikal region in the first quarter of the 20th century. It was the time of the sudden conscription of Buryat men for rear work in the First World War, the revolutionary events of 1917, the change in the social system, and a sharp change in the way of life of the Buryats. In the whirlwind of those years, the wealthy Khankhasaev family did not accept the Soviet system, they simply could not fit into the new conditions, and its members chose a different path.
