The present book by well-known specialists and experts in art is dedicated to the history of Medieval Russian painting, from christening at the end of the Xth century till the reforms, realized by Peter the Great and St. Petersburg founding in 1703. Church mosaics, wall painting, icons, book miniatures and ornaments are examined in the book. Works, created in the Kiev Russia times in the cities of Kiev, Chernigov, Polotsk and Galich as well as monuments of Novgorod, Pskov, Rostov and Suzdal and other cities and towns, are characterized. Special attention is paid to the description of the XIVth – XVIIth centuries’ Moscow artistic heritage, including works by famous icon painters: Saint Andrei Rublev, Dionysius, Simon Ushakov and others.
