History of Pinsk in postcards and photographs - Belarusian Jerusalem and Venice. It was possible to stop a moment and show the characteristic features of Pinsk for the first time in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. From that time, publishers and owners of city bookstores began to produce postcards with views of the city.
The collection of Pinsk postcards grew during the First World War. German publishers of military postcards issued three sets with views of Pinsk. An outsider's view not only carefully recorded the architectural monuments and the city center, but also preserved views of the outskirts, types of citizens, and household walls.
The largest number of Pinsk postcards falls on the 20-30s of the 20th century, and photo postcards prevail among them. Sometimes photographers rephotographed old postcards, adding their own texts to them. But still, the main part of them was original and gave the opportunity to see the city, restored after the great fire of 1921.
More than a hundred postcards of the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, which introduce us to the architecture of the old city, have survived to this day.
