The edition covers the history of the book-manuscript tradition of Pinega. The Pinega manuscript collection of the Institute of Literature and Art of the Russian Academy of Sciences, old printed books are the main sources for characterizing book-manuscript tradition of Pinega - one of the most important centers of the Russian North's book culture. The appendix includes the descriptions of Pinega manuscripts, found in Moscow, St.Petersburg and Vologda depositories, as well as a detailed description of Pinega part of the collection of A.Grigoriev in the Slave Library in Prague, published for the first time.
