The monograph of the literary scholar Petr Darovec presents Peter Pistanek as a groundbreaking author of the 1990s, who opened a whole new world of mobsters and prostitutes to Slovak literature, their lifestyles and behaviors, including declining language. He wrote with foresight and without moralizing about human superficiality, spiritual emptiness and intellectual laziness, but also about the manipulation techniques of power. He had and still has many followers, but only he was able to turn low post-revolutionary reality into high art literature.
