The memoirs represent a story about everything, which is related to the author in this or that way: Leningrad school 161, M.N.Pokrovsky Pedagogical University and a small town of Chashniki in the Vitebsk Region, where the author’s grandparents were shot to death in 1942, a popular Leningrad cafe “Saigon”, and “Zvezda”, a Leningrad magazine, where the author started publishing his articles in the 1960s. The author of the book tells us about his fifty-year interest in Dostoevsky, his search of materials about Russian publishers, as well as about his meetings with such outstanding people as Dostoevsky’s grandson, academician D.Likhachev, H.Boll, D.Granin, A.Tarkovsky, L.Leonov and many others.
