This fascinating compilation of articles highlights the first half-century of Bulgaria's development after its liberation from Ottoman Turkish rule. The present special phototype edition marks the 100th death anniversary of the patriarch of Bulgarian literature Ivan Vazov. The book was compiled by writer and translator Evgenia Mars, who was Vazov's longtime romantic partner. It was first published in 1929. At a time when every individual in modern Bulgaria was looking for salvation for themselves, this book brought back the memory of the glorious National Revival Period (18th-19th century) and its collective patriotism. Few other books in the 1920s received as much unanimous praise as "Half a Century of Bulgaria".
