The aim of this monograph is to explore the Gurbet Romani variety spoken in Eastern Serbia from a contact linguistics perspective, taking a corpus based approach. The focus is on two contact phenomena developed at different language levels in different time periods, namely morpho-syntactic Balkanisms and Serbian loanwords. Although there are numerous linguistic studies on Gurbet Romani, the area of Eastern Serbia – the town of Knjazevac and its surroundings, where this variety is also spoken, has not been documented or investigated in Romani linguistics yet.
