The book provides documentary narrative about the origin, development, and prosperity of cooperative system in southwestern Siberia, in the Altai area primarily, from the late XIXth century up to December of 1919 when Barnaul was occupied by the Red Army. Major attention is paid to credit cooperation, its forms and levels. Development of butter, cheese-making industries, and finally setting up of consumer's cooperation is rendered. The author reexamines tragic events of 1919 and depicts the atmosphere of that time. Rare photographs, statistical, biographical, bibliographical indices supplement the edition.
