This book includes 100 icons the main part of which are situated in the exposition of the Bulgarian Museum for Christian Art. The reset of them - along with the famous ceramic icon of St. Theodore of Preslav and the mosaic icon of St. Mary Odigitria are from the National Archaeological and Historical Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and in other museums. The collection aims to trace the complete development of the church paintings in Bulgaria from the 9th to the 19th c. Some of these icons are not known even for specialists; others are published for the first time in their authentic image and with data about their author, origin and dating after long-lasting restoration in the national laboratories of the museums. The edition is with exceptional polygraph quality by using an innovative print method. The book has lots of scientific contributions. It is intended both for professionals and for wide range of readers and fans of the church arts.
