The book is dedicated to pre-revolutionary events in Nizhny Tagil, Verkhoturye district, as well as in other cities and towns of the Mining Urals. It chronologically presents important stages in the development of social life on the eve of and during the Russian Revolution. There are no fictitious events or characters in the book, and the background and biographical information of the persons involved was carefully reconstructed from numerous sources. Whenever possible, the author tried to introduce little-known persons to the reading public in more detail, providing biographical and additional information in the form of brief references. The appendices include extensive, previously unpublished archival documents, for example, political reviews of the Verkhoturye district and lists of persons.
