Ancient Russia is the territory of modern Central Ukraine (Kiev, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy regions, partially also Vinnitsa, Cherkasy, Poltava). The annals do not mention either Suzdal Rus, Novgorod, or Moscow. Russia has always been one - Kievan.
The name "North-Eastern Russia" is a later conditional. It was invented to designate dozens of principalities that arose on the territory inhabited by Finnish-Ugric tribes. In these principalities, the descendants of the Varangian conquerors ruled. Not Rurik, because Rurik, who sailed to Ladoga, is a mythical figure. In the end, thanks to the Tatar conquest, they united around Moscow (albeit not of their own free will) and began to be called the Moscow state, or simply Muscovy.
Professional historians know this well, but for everyone else it is a “secret”. This collection is intended for those readers who do not know history well.
