The monograph is dedicated to the history of reading in the monastic monasteries of the Lviv Diocese of the early modern period, which was the southwestern part of the Kyiv Metropolitanate, the territory of cultural exchange between the Latin West and North and the Orthodox East and South. In the 17th century "consumption of the word" remained integrated into church rule and cell prayer, performing the functions of "spiritual exercise." The Basilians tried to normalize the practice of turning to literature on the model of the Latin models of lectio librorum - with clear instructions on what, where and when to read.
