The large format album (28x22) is on peculiarities of iconography of saints and hermits in the church art in the early modern period. The book consists of three essays. The first one studies the development tendencies and spiritual portrait typology in the context of portrait genre development in the XVIIIth century –early the XXth century. The second part includes the review of various works that unite iconographic, stylistic and technique features of the portrait and icon. The last essay tells the history of the portrait-based development of the iconographical canon of saints that were glorified within the synodal period of the Russian Church.
