The article describes specific mechanisms of the second language acquisition in the context of subordinate multilingualism. Depending on the level of knowledge of the first foreign language, special importance is obtained by interference as a process of influencing one of the contact languages causing language deviations and transference as a process of a positive transfer of the native tongue norms to another contact language, which, as a result, make communication between interlocutors and co-learning of the foreign language easier.
