This is an adventurous, psychological novel, full of wanderings, adventures and for the time being hiding a half-century-old secret. The action takes place in 1992, shortly after the collapse of the USSR. A Ukrainian ship has been arrested in an Argentine port for debt. Moreover, the former political officer fled, taking with him the cash register and team passports. A critical situation, hunger and indifference drive one of the sailors to self-immolation in front of the embassy. Then the fourth mate Sasha Rozov decides on a crazy plan: to return home to Odessa by land. Without documents, he will hitchhike from Buenos Aires to Alaska, and then cross the Bering Strait on the ice.
