The book presents 151 sets of Estonian folk costumes that were worn in the XIXth and first decades of the XXth century. Most clothing items were made by home artisans, each woman being the breadwinner and seamstress of her family, the man a tanner and shoemaker. In addition to Estonian clothing, examples of costumes of other ethnic groups living in Estonia are given (for example, on the coastal territories and islands there were areas inhabited by Swedish peasants, on the shores of Lake Peipsi there is a settlement of Russian Old Believers).
