Lauri Vahtre (born 22 March 1960) is an Estonian politician, historian, translator and writer. Language is a serious matter, especially the mother tongue. Language awakens thoughts, but it can also stifle thoughts. Language can confuse things, but it can also clarify things. Language is probably the best and worst thing that humans have invented. But no matter how good or bad it is, one thing is certain - we cannot do without language.
