The book presents the results of research into occasional monuments of older Slovak literature that deal with marriage and the role of the wife in it. It focuses on the literary representation of married life and the role of the wife, as well as on the nature of related poetic images. It identifies the ideological message of the selected monuments, their literary and ideological backgrounds, relevant poeological characteristics, and also the means that contribute to the artistic impact of these texts. Probes into the occasional production of the 16th-18th centuries suggest stable features and transformations of the literary image of marriage and the ideal of the wife, which are also situated in a broader ideological and social context. In addition to literary-historical knowledge, this opens the door to further interdiciplinary thinking about marital relations and the status of the wife in the past. The book also demonstrates that occasional writing was a full-fledged part of contemporary literary production in terms of its literary-aesthetic qualities as well as the richness of ideas contained within it.
