Jaak Prozes, a dedicated researcher of Finno-Ugric peoples and an advocate for the survival of our tribal peoples, has selected writings for this collection, which is part of the Ilmatarkade series, that concern issues of national development, culture and education, as well as areas related to the mobilization, modernization and consolidation of the nation. In both numerical and cultural terms, small can be big – together with all Finno-Ugric peoples, we number nearly 25 million. This gives both size and depth to the ways of thinking necessary for our independence. From this perspective, Finno-Ugricness is resistance, a fight for our identity and against assimilation. As Finno-Ugrics together, we may be better able to protect our cultural independence, which is necessary to remain a nation. The publication of the book has been supported by the Estonian Cultural Endowment.
