The book presents theoretical, methodological and empirical aspects of the study of financial behavior and financial literacy of the population. Approaches to the interpretation of the categories “economic behavior”, “financial behavior”, “financial literacy” have been systematized; The author's approach to a comprehensive assessment of the financial behavior of the population at the macro and micro levels in the context of quantitative indicators and qualitative characteristics is proposed. Based on the materials of state statistics for the regions of Russia, trends and patterns of financial behavior of the population at the macro level are highlighted. Based on data from representative sociological studies of the population of the Vologda region, using decomposition on socio-economic and demographic grounds, the features of the financial behavior of the population at the regional level were studied. Methodological tools for component-by-component and index assessment of the level of financial literacy of the population are presented and tested. Modern practice is generalized and key challenges to the regulation of financial behavior and financial literacy of the Russian population are highlighted. A set of tools in a methodological, informational and educational format for developing financial activity and increasing financial literacy of various groups of the population is proposed, and the positive effects of their use are substantiated.
