The book is dedicated to the Saratov decade (1865–1875) of the outstanding Silver Age architect Fyodor (Franz) Osipovich Shekhtel. The author provides an in-depth exploration of the complex genealogy of the Shekhtel family, who had settled in the Saratov Volga region two and a half centuries ago.
Several chapters focus on the relationships among Shekhtel’s ancestors and numerous relatives.
Special attention is given to Shekhtel’s fellow countrymen who made significant contributions to Russian culture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Encounters and collaborations with them — later in Moscow — became key milestones in the architect’s creative journey.
