The book includes materials of the same-name international conference held in Moscow on February 2-3, 2005. The conference reflects the next stage of the large-scale project dealing with studies of the Jewish-Christian dialogue launched in 1995. The researchers consider peculiarities of Jewish and Slavic food-taking cultural code, the system of prohibitions and instructions connected with meals and repast, analyze symbols of various kinds of food and drinks, as well as the rituals and folk motives accompanying feasts in different ethnic traditions.
